U.S. health care system, health care relies heavily on private health insurance, which is the main source of coverage for most Americans. According to the CDC, about 58% of Americans have private health insurance. [32] Public programs provide the main source of coverage for most senior citizens and low-income children and families who meet certain requirements. Initial public programs Medicare, the federal social insurance programs for the elderly and disabled certain individuals, Medicaid, financed jointly by the federal government and states, and the management at the state level, which includes some very low-income children and their families, and SCHIP, and federal government partnership that serves certain children and families who are not eligible for Medicaid, but who can not afford private health. Other public programs include military health benefits provided through TRICARE and the Veterans Health Administration and benefits provided through the Indian Health. Some states have additional programs for low-income individuals [33].
A recent study showed that 62 percent of all bankruptcies filed in 2007 were related to medical expenses. Of those who filed for bankruptcy, nearly 80 percent had health insurance. [34] In just three years, Medicare and Medicaid programs will account for 50 percent of all national health expenditures. [35] This has led to a protest for overhaul health care system in the United States. The House of Representatives passed a bill of health reform by a vote of 220-215 on Nov. 7, 2009. [36] Currently, the fate of the bill is based on the Senate. Legislation after including changes which give the government authority to negotiate the policy premiums and providing a public choice, and to try to get enough votes to prevent Republican obstruction of the public option was removed from the bill. This would give citizens the opportunity to buy in public programs like Medicare, for which the current members pay only $ 96.40 a month. [37] Instead, the bill now requires that all Americans purchase private health insurance and is subject to a fine. [37] [38] [source not stated] insurance is a significant lobby group in the United States. The main health interests spent an average of 1.4 million dollars a day to lobby Congress this year and are on track to spend more than half a billion dollars by the end of 2009. On March 21, 2010 House of Representatives passed a bill proposed by President Obama, who is alleged to offer a wide range of coverage and extend it to approximately 32 million Americans without coverage.
